About Exercise Kinesiology
Not to be confused with Applied Kinesiology, Exercise Kinesiology is all about bodies in motion - the study and application of whole organism movement, movement organisation and how to restore and preserve it.
Rather than looking at the human body through the lens of compartmentalization & linearity which is a somewhat Newtonian approach, Exercise Kinesiology is holistic and views the body through the lens of inter-connectedness in term of:
- Functionality & Tensegrity (tension/compression)
- Systems of systems (cybernetics)
- Bodymind & spirit / emotional wellbeing.
Exercise Kinesiology requires an appreciation and understanding of embryology, human developmental processes & evolutionary sciences.
An essential element of Exercise Kinesiology is to help people of all ages restore & preserve their Life Movement skills.
Life Movement skills are also known as Bio-Motor abilities which include:
Balance, co-ordination, joint mobility & stability, flexibility, agility, endurance, strength, speed & power.
Postural correction work whether it be static, dynamic or at rest is most fundamental – as a colleague once pointed out, rest is to movement as day is to night.
Exercise Kinesiology is largely rooted in the coaching model which is “teach a man to fish and feed him for a life-time” versus the treatment model.
The objective is to effectively implement a corrective exercise program that can be self managed providing independence and empowerment.
The corrective and performance enhancement based programs are designed based on a comprehensive assessment.
