* I am currently updating my blog with posts and newsletters from the past year. This is a newsletter from June/July 2025.
Hi All,
One of the hardest questions I still struggle to answer is: “What is it that you do?”
Recently, I listened to the philosopher Alain de Botton, who spoke about the need for a kind of “paganism” of ideas - an openness to multiple tools and perspectives. In contrast, he warns against what he calls “The Golden Hammer”: the tendency for someone to popularise a single idea so powerfully that it becomes a one-size-fits-all solution. Drunk on their own influence, they begin to believe that one tool can fix everything.
But the truth is, real transformation - whether in thought, body, or life, requires something more subtle. Think of alchemy, cohesion, or umami: all of these demand finesse, refinement, experimentation, and patience. These are qualities I deeply admire. They speak to processes with layers, depth, and richness - outcomes that only time, practice, and persistence can deliver.
Even after 30+ years in this field, I am still learning, still puzzling things together, still discovering. And really, isn’t that what keeps us excited, motivated, and hopeful?
Over the years, I’ve sought out better ways to articulate what I do. I found clarity in the words of Esther Gokhale, who described her work as: “I help people restore their natural body architecture and ways of moving.” To that, I would add: “I help people restore their inner and outer body architecture for work, sport, play, and everyday life.”
It’s complex. It’s nuanced. It’s a language of its own.
Re-sculpting the body and re-patterning the nervous system (often tangled with layers of emotions) demands the same qualities I spoke of earlier: time, patience, and perseverance. This is a collaborative journey. Over time, you’ll gain not just one tool, but a whole toolkit and several teachers to equip you with insight and understanding that empower you to help yourself.
And that’s what makes my work and the work of my peers so deeply satisfying and rewarding!
Yours in Health & Movement,
Fem.
